Building a Long-Term Relationship with Your Recruiter

Job markets can be a delicate maze to maneuver, which is why a good recruiter is a valuable tool for those seeking employment. A corporate recruiter is your agent, publicist and manager all wrapped up into one package, so when you find the right one it’s a good idea to hold onto them. Cultivating a long-term partnership with a recruiter benefits both parties, leading to smart job choices for you and a reliable artist for them. It’s a win-win! Here are a few tips to help a fruitful relationship blossom – 

Work Together – Give your recruiter a no-nonsense assessment of the work you want to be doing, but be willing to receive valuable advice from them as well. Only through a collaborative environment can you determine the plan of action that fits you best, and being on the same page means traveling down the career road together. Your recruiter sells you better when they know exactly what they’re selling.

Trust – Trust is a key to partnerships, and it works both ways. You’re trusting the recruiter to consistently find the best jobs for you, and your recruiter is trusting that you’ll continue to perform well and update skills when necessary. This mutual trust leads to comfort and accountability down the road.

Regular Contact – Keep in contact on a regular basis! Exchange ideas and update necessary info with your recruiter, and make sure they do the same with you. Keeping in touch, even if you’re currently employed, means the recruiter is up to date if and when you happen to be available down the road when an opportunity opens up.
