New Hire Tips

New employees are the fresh faces brought in to help the company succeed, so a positive first impression is crucial. How they transition into seasoned pros is dependent on the training they are given as new hires. Which means you need to incorporate not only formal training, but act as an employer that goes the extra mile to make them feel at home. They’re nervous, excited, and feel pressure to perform, so lend a hand to help them process everything with ease. Here’s how.

Connect – Go beyond the introductions for a real connection. They’re meeting tons of new people, so make it easier. Make the connections matter by making them a little more strategic. Align their introductions by common departments, jobs, hobbies, or any other detail that can help make an introduction memorable. It’s a great way to make all of those new names and faces click a little easier in a new employee’s head.

The 411 – Formal training resources are for formal, company-wide training. So make sure you provide specific resources for your new hire as well. Any relevant reports, materials, files and any other item you can pull together can get them a head start in the working process. It might be a tedious operation to organize, but it can help them hit the ground running.

Open Your Door – It might sound simple, but make sure you’re available for them. A welcome attitude relieves a lot of anxiety for new hires. There are bound to be questions and concerns as they get acclimated, so be there to help them learn the ropes around the office (even literally – give them a tour!). Their success as part of the team means feeling like part of the team. So help out, coach!
