Up Periscope

Staying current in the world of social media technology isn’t always easy. So many new advances lead to numerous applications and platforms trumpeted not just as necessary, but revolutionary as well. As a creative you need to decide which apps are worth mastering and which aren’t. Social media marketing is an ever-changing landscape, and you don’t want to be left out when businesses are looking for a creative that can navigate the next big thing.

Which brings us to Periscope. Periscope is a live video streaming app for iOS and Android. Purchased by Twitter prior to its launch, Periscope was released in March of 2015. A short four months later Periscope had surpassed 10 million official account holders, and an estimated 40 years of video per day was being watched on the app. Apple named Periscope the iPhone app of the year in December 2015. This app is quickly becoming a household name. But why should you be concentrating on a video streaming app when thinking about business?

Well, the word live for starters. Live streaming can be used by businesses for webinars and Q&A sessions with employees and customers. The app eliminates the need for webinar software, and feedback is instantaneous. Periscope takes a more conversational tone and brings a shared experience to all involved. Training sessions and tutorials have the potential for seamless interactivity, even when occurring in different places around the world.

Live video also can influence in real time, which can establish a stronger bond between business and customer. As the viewer can interact with the broadcaster in Periscope, so can consumers with companies they follow. This leads to a more authentic experience. Live video isn’t always the most polished, but it’s real

Businesses can make announcements and unveilings to the public on Periscope as well, making customers feel like a part of the experience. The portability of your phone lets Periscope scan crowds easily, taking in the experience. You may not be in the room, but you’re there.

Businesses are unlocking the potential of Periscope, and it’s up to you as a creative to follow suit. One of the appealing things about a new technology is the ability to define it yourself. Periscope design ideas to your clients at the office. Use Periscope to troubleshoot coding or content issues as they’re written. However utilized, Periscope is a platform here to stay for business.
